Tomorrows - From Midi to Jamming to Single Release (Part 2)
Part 2 - Prep and Jamming
Practice Makes Perfect
We decided that "Tomorrows" was the song we would use for our single release. Still a little unsure on how best to launch or promote it, we booked our studio time. It was early January and we booked the studio and our producer, Aidan, for April. A tight schedule.
We dove head first into a practice schedule of sometimes 2-3 practices a week as well as personal practice at home. From my perspective, having a string-skipped lead line, I needed all the time I could get to help me prep for putting my track down on tape. DISCLAIMER: we did not record on tape.
Each week we found ourselves gelling with the song further, hitting a groove and steadily finding the overall vibe and aesthetic of the band generally. It was a creative process too. We changed the BPM of the song from 120-115, I changed the original midi tabbing to something more fluid for my fingers, we developed our tones and rhythmical flourishes.
All in all, we were well prepared. After many a long evening's practice at the Lab (pic below), we knew what had to do and we knew how to do it.
